Façade Insulation Replacement

Trident Facades provides façade insulation replacement services where existing insulation is defective, unsuitable or cannot be retained as part of the proposed remediation solution.

Insulation forms part of the complete external wall build-up, so replacement needs to be coordinated with the cladding, membranes, cavity barriers, fire stopping and supporting system.

When Does Façade Insulation Need Replacing?

Insulation replacement may be required where existing insulation:

  • Has inadequate fire performance
  • Is damaged, deteriorated or water affected
  • Has been incorrectly installed
  • Does not provide the required thermal performance
  • Cannot be retained within the proposed wall build-up
  • Is exposed or found to be defective during cladding removal
  • Requires replacement as part of wider façade remediation

The extent of replacement depends on the condition of the existing system and the requirements of the remediation design.

Our Façade Insulation Replacement Service

Our service can include:

Existing insulation assessment – Reviewing available survey information and assessing exposed insulation where required.

Removal and disposal – Carefully removing defective or unsuitable insulation and disposing of materials appropriately.

Substrate preparation – Preparing the underlying wall and addressing defects before the new insulation is installed.

New insulation installation – Installing the specified insulation system to the required arrangement and performance.

Fixings and retention – Providing the required mechanical fixings and retention systems.

Membranes and interfaces – Coordinating membranes, junctions and interfaces with the surrounding façade.

Cavity barriers and fire stopping – Installing or reinstating associated fire protection measures where required.

Cladding reinstatement or replacement – Coordinating the new insulation with the replacement external wall finish.

Insulation As Part Of The External Wall

Insulation may sit behind a range of façade systems, including:

  • Rainscreen cladding
  • ACM
  • HPL
  • Metal cladding
  • Render and EWI systems
  • Other external wall systems

Replacement therefore needs to consider how the insulation interacts with the rest of the wall, including fire performance, thermal performance, moisture management and fixing arrangements.

Fire And Thermal Performance

Where insulation replacement forms part of a remediation project, the replacement system is selected and installed in accordance with the requirements established by the relevant assessment, design and specification.

The insulation cannot be considered independently from the surrounding wall construction. Its performance needs to work with the cladding, cavity barriers, membranes, fire stopping and supporting structure as a complete system.

Insulation Replacement as Part of Remediation

Existing insulation is often exposed when cladding is removed, allowing its condition to be assessed before the replacement wall build-up is installed.

Where replacement is required, the works can be delivered as part of the wider façade remediation programme or as a standalone package.

Cladding Removal → Insulation Assessment → Insulation Replacement → New Wall Build-Up → Cladding Installation

If you already have a survey, FRAEW, design or specification identifying defective insulation, we can review the available information and establish the required scope of works.
