Cladding Remediation Services

Cladding remediation involves identifying defects within an existing cladding system, establishing the appropriate remedial solution and delivering the works required to make the façade safe, compliant and fit for purpose.

Trident Facades provides end-to-end cladding remediation services for residential, commercial and high-rise buildings across the UK. We can support projects from the initial investigation and remediation strategy through design, procurement, cladding removal, replacement and completion.

What Is Cladding Remediation?

Cladding remediation is the process of identifying defects within an existing cladding system, establishing the appropriate remedial solution, and delivering the works required to make the façade safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.

Depending on the building, this can involve ACM, rainscreen, HPL, render systems, composite panels, metal cladding, or mixed façade systems, alongside their underlying support structures, insulation, cavity barriers, and fire-stopping components. The appropriate solution depends on the existing construction, the nature of the defects, and the evidence established through the relevant assessment and design process.

Cladding Remediation Services

Our cladding remediation service includes:

  • Review of existing assessment information, EWS1, and FRAEW reports
  • Comprehensive façade condition and defect surveys
  • Opening-up and intrusive investigation works
  • Assessment of cladding panels, fixings, and support systems
  • Evaluation of insulation systems, breather membranes, and waterproofing
  • Identification and assessment of cavity barriers and fire stopping
  • Remediation strategy and optioneering (localised vs. full replacement)
  • Full façade design, engineering, and technical specification
  • Scaffolding, access, containment, and protection planning
  • Safe dismantling and removal of defective cladding materials
  • Responsible disposal and recycling of removed components
  • Substrate preparation and structural alignment works
  • Replacement insulation, membrane, and weather-sealing installation
  • Remediation and retrofitting of certified cavity barriers and fire stopping
  • Installation of compliant replacement cladding systems and support framing
  • Window, roof, and structural interface detailing
  • Making good and thorough quality inspections
  • Final handover, sign-off, and completion documentation

When Is Cladding Remediation Required?

Cladding remediation may be required where an existing cladding system presents fire safety, structural, weathering, durability or performance concerns.

Issues can include:

  • Combustible cladding materials
  • Defective or incorrectly installed systems
  • Missing or inadequate cavity barriers
  • Defective fire stopping
  • Deteriorated fixings or support systems
  • Water ingress
  • Failed interfaces
  • Damaged or loose panels
  • Inadequate insulation
  • Poor thermal performance
  • Defective membranes or weatherproofing

The appropriate response depends on the construction of the existing external wall, the nature of the defect and the findings of the relevant assessment.

Our Cladding Remediation Process

  • Assessment

    1

A thorough investigation of the existing cladding system to identify defects, safety risks, weathering issues, or compliance failures.

Reviewing existing assessment information and reports, conducting façade condition surveys, performing intrusive opening-up works, and assessing cladding panels, support framing, insulation, and fire stopping.

  • Strategy

    2

Developing a tailored remediation plan based on the investigation findings.

Determining whether the building requires localised repairs, targeted component replacements, or complete cladding removal and system replacement based on the actual construction and defects identified.

  • Design

    3

Engineering the required remediation and specification for the building envelope.

Developing a buildable specification covering compliant cladding materials, structural framing standards, thermal performance, cavity barrier placement, fire stopping, and regulatory compliance.

  • Removal

    4

Safely stripping away defective or non-compliant elements of the existing cladding system.

Erecting secure scaffolding and containment, carefully dismantling and removing degraded cladding panels, carrier rails, insulation, and inadequate fixings, and responsibly clearing away failed cavity barriers.

  • Repair

    5

Repairing and upgrading the underlying structure, framing, and compartmentation barriers.

Correcting structural interfaces, installing proper mechanical fixings and support framing, and fitting certified cavity barriers and fire stopping at all critical junctions.

  • Replacement

    6

Rebuilding the cladding system to modern performance and safety standards.

Installing new non-combustible insulation, breathable membranes, adjustable brackets, support rails, and replacement cladding systems along with proper weather seals and joint details.

  • Completion

    7

Final handover, quality verification, and project sign-off.

Making good the work areas, conducting rigorous final inspections, and issuing the necessary completion documentation, safety certifications, and warranties.

Cladding Removal Does Not Always Mean Complete Replacement

Not every defective façade requires the entire system to be removed.

A suitable remediation strategy may identify targeted repairs, replacement of specific components or localised remedial works. Where replacement is required, however, the existing cladding system can be carefully dismantled and the underlying wall construction prepared for the new system.

The correct solution should be based on the evidence available for the building rather than assuming that every façade requires wholesale replacement.

Cladding Systems We Remediate

Our services can include remediation of:

Where the external wall contains multiple systems or materials, the remediation strategy can address the façade as a complete external wall system rather than considering individual panels in isolation.

Start Your Cladding Remediation Project

If you have an existing façade assessment, FRAEW, survey, fire safety report or other documentation identifying cladding defects, we can review the available information and discuss the appropriate next stage.
