EWI Replacement

EWI replacement involves the removal of an existing, defective or non-compliant external wall insulation system and its reinstatement with a system that meets current performance and fire safety requirements.

Trident Facades delivers EWI replacement projects for residential, commercial and high-rise buildings across the UK, managing the process from investigation and design through to removal, installation and completion.

When Is EWI Replacement Required?

Replacement is generally considered where an EWI system cannot be adequately repaired or where the existing construction does not meet current standards.

This can apply where a survey identifies:

  • Combustible or non-compliant insulation
  • Widespread cracking, delamination or moisture ingress
  • Systematic absence of cavity barriers or fire stopping
  • Failed fixings across significant areas of the elevation
  • Persistent water ingress affecting the wall behind the insulation
  • Poor thermal performance that cannot be resolved through repair

Where these conditions are found across a substantial proportion of the façade, replacement is often the more practical and durable solution.

Our EWI Replacement Service

Investigation & Strategy

Our survey team can establish the existing wall construction and the extent of the defect, informing a clear remediation strategy for the areas requiring replacement.

Design & Specification

The replacement system is specified to address thermal performance, fire safety, weathertightness and interface detailing, developed as a buildable solution for the existing building.

Removal

Existing insulation, render and associated fixings are carefully removed, with the substrate prepared and made good ahead of the new system.

Installation

The new EWI system, including insulation, mechanical fixings, cavity barriers, fire stopping and render finish, is then installed in accordance with the approved specification.

EWI Systems We Work With

Our experience covers a range of EWI and rendered insulation build-ups, including mineral wool, EPS and phenolic insulation systems with mesh-reinforced render finishes.

Who We Work With

We work with building owners, freeholders, managing agents, developers and housing providers who need to address defects identified in an EWI or rendered insulation system, whether through an FRAEW, fire risk assessment, condition survey or other report.
