Cladding Remediation Services

Cladding remediation involves identifying defects within an existing cladding system, establishing the appropriate remedial solution and delivering the works required to make the façade safe, compliant and fit for purpose.

Trident Facades provides end-to-end cladding remediation services for residential, commercial and high-rise buildings across the UK. We can support projects from the initial investigation and remediation strategy through design, procurement, cladding removal, replacement and completion.

When Is Cladding Remediation Required?

Cladding remediation may be required where an existing cladding system presents fire safety, structural, weathering, durability or performance concerns.

Issues can include:

  • Combustible cladding materials
  • Defective or incorrectly installed systems
  • Missing or inadequate cavity barriers
  • Defective fire stopping
  • Deteriorated fixings or support systems
  • Water ingress
  • Failed interfaces
  • Damaged or loose panels
  • Inadequate insulation
  • Poor thermal performance
  • Defective membranes or weatherproofing

The appropriate response depends on the construction of the existing external wall, the nature of the defect and the findings of the relevant assessment.

A Complete Cladding Remediation Service

Our approach can cover the complete remediation process:

Investigation

Where required, our dedicated survey team, Trident Facades Surveys, can undertake façade condition surveys, intrusive investigations and opening-up works to establish the existing wall construction.

Remediation Strategy

The investigation and assessment evidence is used to establish the appropriate remediation strategy. Depending on the circumstances, this may involve repair, partial replacement, complete cladding replacement or other remedial measures.

Design & Specification

Our façade design and engineering services develop the selected remediation solution into a buildable specification, including interfaces, materials, fire performance, thermal performance and installation requirements.

Removal

Where existing cladding needs to be removed, we can coordinate and deliver the necessary dismantling, access, protection and disposal works.

Replacement & Remediation

New cladding systems, insulation, membranes, cavity barriers, fire stopping and associated components can then be installed as part of the remediation works.

Cladding Removal Does Not Always Mean Complete Replacement

Not every defective façade requires the entire system to be removed.

A suitable remediation strategy may identify targeted repairs, replacement of specific components or localised remedial works. Where replacement is required, however, the existing cladding system can be carefully dismantled and the underlying wall construction prepared for the new system.

The correct solution should be based on the evidence available for the building rather than assuming that every façade requires wholesale replacement.

Cladding Systems We Remediate

Our services can include remediation of:

  • ACM cladding
  • Rainscreen cladding
  • HPL cladding
  • Render systems
  • Composite panels
  • Metal cladding
  • Insulated cladding systems
  • Mixed façade systems

Where the external wall contains multiple systems or materials, the remediation strategy can address the façade as a complete external wall system rather than considering individual panels in isolation.

From Investigation to Completion

Cladding remediation frequently involves several different disciplines. Coordinating these stages from the outset helps avoid gaps between the survey, design and construction phases.

Our process can therefore follow:

Survey → Assessment → Remediation Strategy → Design → Specification → Procurement → Removal → Replacement → Completion

Where an external wall assessment has already been completed, we can review the available documentation and establish what information is required before remediation works can proceed.

Cladding Remediation for Existing Buildings

We work with building owners, freeholders, managing agents, developers, housing providers, commercial property owners and other responsible parties who need to address existing façade defects.

Projects can involve individual elevations, specific cladding systems or complete external wall remediation.

Start Your Cladding Remediation Project

If you have an existing façade assessment, FRAEW, survey, fire safety report or other documentation identifying cladding defects, we can review the available information and discuss the appropriate next stage.
