HPL Cladding Replacement

Trident Facades provides HPL cladding replacement services for buildings where an existing high-pressure laminate (HPL) rainscreen system needs to be removed and replaced.

Replacement projects require careful coordination between façade design, existing wall construction, access, removal and installation

When Does HPL Cladding Need Replacing?

Replacement may be required where an existing HPL system:

  • Cannot achieve the required fire performance
  • Has delaminating, warped or bowed panels
  • Has swollen or degraded panel edges from moisture ingress
  • Has defective support rails or brackets
  • Suffers persistent water ingress
  • Has failed membranes or interfaces
  • Has inadequate cavity barriers or fire stopping
  • Cannot be effectively repaired
  • Is being replaced as part of a wider façade remediation programme

Designing the Replacement System

A replacement HPL system should be designed around the complete external wall.

Considerations can include:

  • Panel material and fire classification
  • Support rails
  • Brackets
  • Fixings
  • Insulation
  • Membranes
  • Cavity barriers
  • Fire stopping
  • Windows
  • Balconies
  • Flashings
  • Weathering
  • Thermal performance

Removing the Existing System

The existing HPL cladding must be carefully dismantled to expose the wall construction while protecting retained elements.

This may involve:

  • Scaffolding
  • MEWPs
  • Controlled dismantling
  • Panel removal
  • Rail removal
  • Disposal
  • Temporary weather protection
  • Substrate preparation

Installing the New HPL Cladding

The replacement system can then be installed in accordance with the approved design and specification.

This may include new:

  • HPL panels
  • Support systems
  • Insulation
  • Membranes
  • Cavity barriers
  • Fire stopping
  • Flashings
  • Trims

HPL Replacement as Part of Remediation

Where a FRAEW or other assessment has identified remediation requirements, the replacement design should respond to the findings and recommendations of that assessment.

Our dedicated survey team can assist with the investigation and opening-up stage where required.
